Despite seeming so thin and delicate, your skin is actually comprised of many layers, the outermost one being the skin barrier. It is important that we let it perform its functions, especially the more important ones: keeping the good things in, and the bad things out. For example, keeping in healthy oils, hydrating, and moisturizing is a good thing. But on the other hand, it should keep out dirt, pollution, and other harmful irritants of the skin. You can even use technologies such as Blue LED Light Therapy to help heal the skin.
A damaged skin barrier and what causes it
Damaged skin can look like many things. Think redness, dry skin, discoloration, and even sensitivity. If you find that recently your skin has started to feel this way, it may be a sign of a compromised skin barrier. There could be a few reasons why your skin feels lackluster all of a sudden.
Reason 1: Over exfoliating
Anti-inflammation is the key to keeping your skin happy. However, exfoliation can do just the opposite if you’re not careful. It’s hard not to love a good exfoliator, but here’s where you can go wrong. While exfoliating correctly can have plentiful benefits for your skin, it’s easy to go overboard. Avoid exfoliating frequently and try to keep your exfoliating regimen to 2-3 times per week. Also, learn to read your skin and take a break if it becomes red, dry, or flaky.
Reason 2: Sun Damage
It seems as though everyone keeps telling you to put on sunscreen, and for good reason too! It is also important to use enough sunscreen, not just a drop. This is because the sun’s UV rays are harmful to the skin and can cause skin issues like hyperpigmentation and discoloration, not to mention more serious conditions.
Reason 3: Too Hot or Too Cold water
You may have already heard that hot water can dry out the skin and remove its hydrating properties. But did you know too cold water is also detrimental to the skin? It can make it difficult for the skin to completely get rid of dirt and grime. As a result, you may see an increase in acne, scarring, and an overall dullness to the skin.
Reason 4: Having many active ingredients in your skincare routines
Again, anti-inflammation is the key to keeping your skin happy. Even though retinol and acne creams can offer you many benefits, using too many products at once can cause irritation of the skin. These products tend to be really concentrated, so mixing them up can cause a lot of dryness. Try to use them one at a time or alternate between them during your skincare routines. In the meantime, you can also combat the dryness with a good hydrating cream!
Anti-inflammation by Blue LED Light Therapy and keep hydrating
LED light therapy has made its way through the channels into the beauty and skincare world, and beauty gurus strongly advocate for the use of blue LED light therapy. When it comes to technology, it is always the safest bet to pick an FDA-cleared device. LumaGlow Red & Blue Light Therapy is an anti-inflammation Blue LED Light Therapy device that specifically targets issues such as acne spot scars, and wrinkles.
With 44 led bulbs per color, you can be sure to achieve effective photon rejuvenation, skin collagen boosts, and even anti-inflammation properties such as the prevention of wound infection. Besides, the blue light can also tighten loosened skin. Use the Blue LED light therapy for most effective bacteria-killing, acne skin sterilization, and inhibition of the sebaceous gland.
Another way to maintain a healthy skin barrier is to keep hydrating. A good cream or serum is all you need to enjoy soft and supple skin. Hyaluronic acid, for example, can be a great choice. The Project E Beauty Hyaluronic acid serum combines with up to 1000 Times Water in its Weight and to a hydration layer on the skin. This serum instantly absorbs moisture into the skin and delivers higher hydration levels to give you skin that glows everyday. It is found naturally in the skin as well and works as a sponge for dry skin cells. This Hyaluronic Acid is a Project E Beauty favorite!
You can also heal your skin with antioxidants. Antioxidants can be found in oils such as sunflower and safflower. But make sure to avoid highly scented products as these can cause harm and irritate the skin. You can also find some nice Vitamin B creams as they act as healing lubricators.
Additionally, we touched upon it briefly, but sun exposure is one of the main causes of a damaged skin barrier, and a continuous exposure to the UV rays prevents the skin-barrier from a full restoration. We suggest the use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher every day. You can even go the extra mile and select one that’s full of antioxidants for anti-aging benefits in addition to protection.
Making a choice!
Why not begin the healing process and take a look at the Hyaluronic Acid serum or Blue LED Light Therapy device to restore and repair your skin barrier?
